Mervyn Singer

Dr. Singer qualified from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College (Barts), London, UK, in 1981. He trained in medicine and intensive care at various London-area hospitals, including Guy’s Hospital, St. George’s Hospital, and University College London Hospitals.

At University College London Hospitals, Dr. Singer has served successively as senior lecturer, reader, and professor of intensive care medicine. His major research interests are shock, haemodynamic monitoring, sepsis, and infection.

Dr. Singer currently holds grants from the Medical Research Council, Wellcome Trust, European Commission, and UK National Health Service Research and Development programme. He also serves as review editor for Intensive Care Medicine and as a medical advisor to Eastenders, the long-running UK television soap opera.

Kenneth McDonald

Dr. McDonald qualified from University College Dublin, Ireland, in 1981. His postgraduate thesis focused on metabolic and structural changes of ventricular remodelling (University College Dublin, 1991).

Dr. McDonald received cardiology training from St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin and from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. At the University of Minnesota, he held the posts of assistant professor of medicine from 1991 to 1996, and associate professor of medicine from 1995 to 1997.

Since 1997 he has served as consultant cardiologist and director of the Heart Failure Program at St. Vincent's University Hospital. His major research interests include ventricular remodelling and healthcare delivery in heart failure.
